Debbie Darling presents her series of musical talks that are both entertaining and informative.
The role that African American women played in the history of jazz has from its inception often been omitted from the larger narrative. Black women fought harsh stereotypes levied against their gender, race, musical abilities and basic rights to perform. Debbie Darling will introduce you to four iconic jazz vocal mavens who broke through barriers to pave the way for some of our favorite artists of today. Through this musical introspective on the lives of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, and Sarah Vaughan you will get a glimpse into the lives of four amazing women whose tenacity and determination forever changed the face of jazz.
With live piano accompaniment.

The Beachwood Branch first opened to the public on October 31, 1982. At the time, it was the first branch in the CCPL system to have an automated circulation system. Located just a few hundred yards from the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, the branch offers a drive-up window where customers can pick up requested materials, dedicated spaces for kids and teens, and a beautiful outdoor reading garden.
