Just Do Nothing (for Parents) - Adults

2026-11-21 11:00:00 2026-11-21 12:00:00 America/New_York Joanna Hardis Join us when author Joanna Hardis visits to discuss her latest book, Just Do Nothing (for Parents): How to Parent Better by Doing Less. North Olmsted Branch - Large Meeting Room (90)

Saturday, November 21
11:00am - 12:00pm

North Olmsted Branch

Large Meeting Room (90)

Join us when author Joanna Hardis visits to discuss her latest book, Just Do Nothing (for Parents): How to Parent Better by Doing Less.

You swore you'd parent differently. But somehow, you find yourself on Reddit parenting threads at 2am seeking reassurance that you’re not a terrible parent, and you’ve Googled “Is it bad if I yelled at my child?” more times than you’d like to admit. You’re tired of bouncing between contradictory advice, hoping someone, somewhere, has the one “right” answer.

Parenting is hard. It’s even harder when your nervous system feels stuck on high alert (or overdrive), your emotions feel out of control, and you’re worried that every move you make will screw your kids up. From the author of Just Do Nothing: The Paradoxical Guide to Getting Out of Your Way comes a version just for parents. Because raising emotionally resilient kids starts with us.

Joanna Hardis doesn’t just tell you to get comfortable being uncomfortable; she shows you how to do it with a science-backed, refreshingly honest approach to becoming a more regulated parent who’s better capable of navigating discomfort by doing less, not more.

Inside, you’ll learn how to:
★ Pause instead of pouncing when your kid hits your last nerve.
★ Increase your capacity to sit with discomfort and uncertainty.
★ Respond with intention instead of reactivity.
★ Accept difficult emotions and build your emotional resilience.

Not making difficult situations even harder.

It’s not about eliminating distress. It’s about learning to live with it in healthier ways. And while that may sound uncomfortable, it’s exactly the skill set you (and your kids) need.

Joanna Hardis, LISW-S, is a cognitive behavioral therapist based in Cleveland, Ohio. Committed to using evidence-based treatments, Joanna helps people get “unstuck.” She received her B.S. at Cornell University and her M.S.S.A. at Case Western Reserve University. She earned her certification from the Cleveland Center for Cognitive Therapy in 2000, SPACE (Supportive Counseling for Anxious Childhood Emotions) Certification in 2016, and she’s one of a handful of clinicians with the highest training in Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD in Northeast Ohio.

About the branch

In 1829, Charles Hyde Olmsted promised to donate 500 books from his father’s collection if the residents agreed to change the name of their town from Lenox to Olmsted. They did and the books traveled by oxcart and were housed in individual residents’ homes while being circulated. The “Oxcart Library” is thought to be the first circulating public library in the Western Reserve.

This branch is a Student Success Center and a Greater Cleveland Food Bank Kids Café location.
