Wade in the Water: A Journey into Black Surfing and Aquatic Culture

Wade in the Water explores the neglected history of Black surfing’s heritage by charting the origins of African aquatic culture and examining the evolution of Black surfing through the modern day. Historical experts and community leaders resurrect the thousand-year-old Black surfing tradition, stirring the next generation of Black surfers.

About the branch

The Bedford Branch (formerly known as the Southeast Branch) became the fourth branch to join Cuyahoga County Public Library in 1924. A groundbreaking for the current 14,617-square-foot building took place in 1990 and the building was formally dedicated a year later.

This branch is a Student Success Center and a Greater Cleveland Food Bank Kids Café location.
