See other dates and locations for this program on our events calendar.
The ethereal, mysterious kalimba, aka the African thumb piano, is often misunderstood. Carl Winters, the Kalimba King, will play jazz, blues, gospel and freedom and civil rights songs on kalimbas (African thumb pianos). Participants will learn about the significance of kalimbas in African countries, learn how kalimbas are made and have hands-on opportunities to play the kalimbas
Carl Winters was born in San Antonio and comes from a musical family. Winters’ inspiration to begin playing/studying the kalimba (African thumb piano) came in the 1970s from Maurice White, founder of Earth, Wind & Fire. Winters is a nationwide performer who is joining us on his Midwest to East coast tour.
